Draft Article:  UFOs and Things that Go Bump in the Night

There was a time when talk of flying saucers and ghosts were considered news not fit to be printed in respectable periodicals and it was certainly not a topic of serious discussion among sane people.  Things have changed.  Our culture is more fascinated than ever these days with the lure of the occult, especially as it is represented in the New Age Movement.  We are literally inundated in the media with series featuring the occult in all its glory.  You have Buffy trying to slay vampires who refuse to stay dead.  You have beautiful young women charming occult powers to combat evil powers, as if it were all just a game.  The X-files touts an underlying wisdom of the old Shaman, who has an inside line to the gods.  And then there’s Harry Potter.  We have already witnessed the effects of glorifying drinking, smoking, sex, and violence in the media on our youth.  Now we can look forward to a majority of the youth of today developing demonic attachments as they experiment with the occult glorified in this popular series.

We can clearly see that a wide spectrum of people is being deceived by these normalizations of the occult, from Hollywood movie stars, to the ordinary housewife, to the kids in your school, and to the people you work with.  Yet the stories we hear about are lace with obvious and not-so-obvious frauds, and some of the victims are so paranoid they probably belong in a mental institution.  Nevertheless, is there something to this fascination with the occult?  Is it a New Age phenomenon or merely a continuation of the spiritism that has been evident throughout the recorded history of mankind?  Could there be a power in the occult that really works?  If so, can we use the scientific method to understand some things about the mechanisms and the physics employed by its practitioners?

Zen Master, Shunryu Suzuki advises,  “If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything.  It is open to everything.  In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, in the expert’s mind there are few.”  This quote appeared on a carton of Silk Soy Milk picked up at the local grocery store.  Apparently that vendor, like so many in the media, sees this advise as healthy.  Similarly the Western Guru, Deepak Chapra is featured on Public TV as offering a wonderful way to relax and relieve stress in this modern, hectic world of ours.  His advice is to, “Think of the space between your thoughts and you will get in touch with your ‘inner self’.”

What do these publicly applauded “wise men” have in common and what are they really promoting.  Both are spiritists involved in the occult, but in this New Age they are cloaked in garments of altruism.  They are selling truth mixed with error intended to deceive their victims. They are in communication with evil spirits and they want you to join them.  For them, it may appear to be an experience with positive benefits at least for now.  However, the criterion prerequisite to success in this communication channeling is to give up control of your mind and allow others to tell you what to think.  As such, your perception of truth can be manipulated.  You will lose the ability to distinguish between truth and error in small, incremental steps, but eventually you will be made to believe enormous lies.  How does this work, anyway?

Here’s the deal.

Thoughts are a form of electromagnetic energy, just like radio waves, light, heat, and X-rays. If you attach an oscilloscope probe to your temples and you’ll see displayed on the screen the energy emitting from your brain as you think.  The patterns will vary as you think, but it all may appear as noise, because our thoughts are generally a mixture of ideas, control signals for our bodily functions, and the like without a particular focus.

We are transmitting these thoughts as they appear, by the very act of thinking them.  The probe is receiving them and displaying them so we can visualize them according to the frequency of electromagnetic energy they consist of.  Our brain also displays some of these thoughts when we visualize a picture in our mind.

This natural phenomenon is being better understood by modern science all the time.  However, even the ancients understood something of what this is all about.  Without knowing a thing about radio and television or our theories of electromagnetic wave propagation, they knew they could communicate non-verbally under the right circumstances.

Now consider the art of hypnosis in terms of what we physically can observe.  To be hypnotized, a person must first be willing to loan their mind to the hypnotist, so he/she can then tell them what to think.  For example, one might say, “Let me loan you my mind so you can tell me about my past lives.”  They must exhibit a willingness to be told what to think.  Now you know that reality is only what you perceive it to be in your mind, right?  If you are sleeping and sweating because you are dreaming that you are running a race, then reality to you at that time is that you are running a race.  Never mind that we can see you are not running, you’re sleeping.  Our perception of reality differs from yours.

When someone is under hypnosis they can be given a suggestion, right or wrong and they may believe it to be one of their own thoughts.  Under these conditions the victim can be made to believe a small lie, but not a “leaping lie”.  A small lie is something that is not much different, a plausible deviation from what you already believe to be true.   A leaping lie is something that you would immediately identify as hogwash.  In order to be made to believe a leaping lie the victim must be hypnotized many times, each time being given an incrementally bigger lie to believe.  This is something you’ll find happening in most cults.  Victims are brainwashed day-after-day, night-after-night, until finally they actually are ready to take the killing drugs so they can join the alien spaceship waiting behind the Hale-Bopp comet to take them to Nirvana.  It’s all about our Radio Wave Theory.  We may not understand the physics and chemistry at the molecular level, but we know it works by observation.  We see humans communicating with other humans via the science of hypnosis.  It is both an observable and a repeatable process; hence I say it is a scientific fact that people can put ideas in other people’s mind under the right conditions.

Do you believe in angels?  If you do, then perhaps you can understand what I’ll suggest next.  Angels are mentioned as a fact in the Holy Bible.  According to the Bible, angels are thinking beings just like humans; only they have some additional “supernatural characteristics”.  For instance, angels walk through our 3-dimensional (3D) walls, without having accidents.  They look human enough, with a body similar to ours, but not everyone will see them. They seem to appear to individuals and small groups only.  What gives?

If an angel walks through 3D walls, it must have more dimensions than that wall.  It’s similar to the fact that you can put your arm through a movie screen, while the characters in that screen cannot reach out into your auditorium.  They are missing the dimension of depth, which is necessary in our 3D world.  So, I suggest that angels have some additional dimensions, which allow them to appear “super” natural to us.

Would angels be transmitting when they think, just as we humans do?  I say they do, but their thoughts are more complex just as they are.  Nevertheless, I say that thought is a communication mechanism.  Angels think, humans think, and we can communicate with each other via our thoughts, if we employ the right techniques.  The occult arts are all about communicating with angelic beings.  To understand how this works, we need to apply the science of hypnosis to the channeling we observe happening in the occult arts.

Notice the similarities.  The victim must first exhibit a strong willingness to be told what to think, if he is to talk with the “spirits”.  These spirits are what the Bible calls ‘fallen angels”, but they are perceived to be other entities, depending on which occult art you are into.  Deepak Chapra calls them, “your inner self”.  They are also known as Spirit Guides, Masters of the Universe, Extra-terrestrials, and Familiar Spirits.  Indeed they all become familiar when someone channels to them often enough.  The victim’s willingness to be led by these spirits is exhibited in what they are doing and sometimes what they are saying.  The Lotus Position, for example is a “receive-only mode” posture, where the victim is taking a primeval position of submission to the master of the pack.  “I am ready to be taught and led as you see fit.”

Next the victim must mentally quiet down the background noise in their mind so the transmissions of the spirit guide can be heard.  He does this often by chanting a mantra such as the “aum”.  Drugs can help expedite this.  The key is to get into a trance state, where the oscilloscope display would approach a flat line.  Can you see why Deepak asks you to, “Think of the space between your thoughts.”?

Tuning into the particular frequency of the transmitting spirit is a matter of practice.  Positive feedback from the sender helps perfect the technique to where those who are best at making the connection are called the “channelers”, “priests”, or “gurus”.

Many of these channelers seem to have genuine doubts as to the nature of these beings they are communicating with.  Perhaps their faith is founded on a naïve trust based on emotion and experience.  They are definitely in communication with something.  It selected them, so it must be a “good” thing.  Nevertheless, the demonic beings on the other end can at least do what a human hypnotist can do, ie put ideas in the victim’s mind so that the victim believes them.  In their booklet entitled, “The Facts on Spirit Guides”*, Ankerberg and Weldon referenced a few published cases where the channeler had serious doubts about the nature of the being and their intent, but was convinced by the being that all was well.

Since angelic beings are of a higher dimensional order than we humans, what does this imply about their thoughts?  We visualize our thoughts as 2D images, just as they might appear on a movie screen.  Angelic beings can do this and more.  One of their 2D images imposed on a victim would seem perfectly normal.  However, 3D images (solid objects) would not.  Humans are incapable of visualizing 3D images in their minds, so what happens when the channeler receives one of these from his demonic guide?  It appears outside his body in the form of an apparition.  It’s akin to a non-solid, holographic image, which appears to be every bit 3D, but only the affected channelers can see it.  Sometimes we call such visualizations, UFOs (Unidentified Flying or Floating Objects).  Similarly they can be apparitions of other beings such as a dead loved-one, an ascended master of some repute, or an angelic being.  The Bible warns us in 2Cor 11:14, that the devil himself masquerades as an angel of light.

So if you believe in angels you can see how they would be connected to the occult and how hypnotism at their level would be a form of communication with and control over willing human victims.  The consensus of history and religions testifies to the existence of angelic beings, as does the Bible and many occultists who channel them frequently.   The Bible warns us about them (Deut 18:9-13), while all forms of spiritism are prejudiced against the Bible and encourage communication for altruistic reasons. Something is very real about all this.  There is a power in the occult.  The phenomenon of demonic possession demands an explanation as do those paranormal UFO sightings and encounters, out-of-body experiences, clairvoyance, ghost apparitions, and other things that go bump in the night.  These occurrences are a measure of who is listening.

Once the proper connection is made the victim of an angelic hypnotic link is under the control of that supernatural being.  The victim will lose their ability to distinguish truth from error.  This is the key consequence.  By implanting their own version of truth in the victim’s mind, the angelic being can appear to have taken over that human’s body.  The demon has not actually entered the 3D body, for it is as impossible for an angel to squeeze into 3D as it is for a human to squeeze into 2D.  (That would require the direct intervention of the Creator God, as has been documented in a few cases where angelic beings appear in human form.) However, the result is the same as we onlookers would perceive it.

When we cannot trust our senses to perceive the truth, we can be deceived about anything.  This is less overt than demonic possession and even more dangerous.  Again, the Bible warns (2Thes 2:9-12) that in the End Times it will be the norm to believe lies, causing even the elect to be deceived if they are not grounded in God’s Word so they can see it coming.  Because the consensus of spirit teachings is opposed to the Bible, we are confident that indeed these are the very spirits spoken of as fallen angels in the Bible.  When you believe this, you will know what to do.
